In 2007, a plaque in memory of Coach H.L. “Shorty” Ogle was placed in the Earl O. Webb Fieldhouse. The ceremony was attended by more than 250 family members and friends. In the audience were many former Decatur Red Raider football players; some were players from the 1939 season. Guest speakers included John Godwin (Master of Ceremonies), Coach Earl Morris, Coach Wallace Sanders, Coach Jere Adcock, and Dr. Bob Sittason.
Each speaker remembered the significant impact that Coach had on the lives of Decatur’s young men. It was not his achievements in the record books that were the centerpiece of their presentations. It was the life skills he taught hundreds of boys. They emphasized this was Coach’s major contribution during his years of leadership. His plaque hangs alongside those of Coach Earl O. Webb and Coach Wes Thompson.
